Valley Of Flowers-Badrinath - MTS/LH/08
Located at an altitude of 3,600 meters above the sea-level, protected by snowy mountains is a glacial corridor approx. 2kms. wide and 8kms long . As the name states, the Valley of Flowers does come alive with about 450 types of flower species in the monsoon season for this region. The northern India's state of Uttarakhand, bordered by Nepal and Tibet, experiences the first monsoon showers around June end and it is then that Nature unravels this beautiful sight for us. The park is open only in summer from June to October and the period from July 15th to September end is considered the best for visiting this wonder of nature. The area is inaccessible for the rest of the year as it is covered by heavy snow.
The type of Flowers that you may easily know would be daisies, marigold, orchids, poppies and then there are a whole lot of those which you would have never seen. Sub-alpine forests of rhododendron & birch cover parts of the park's area and the park also has many species of medicinal plants including Picrorhiza kurrooa, Aconitum violaceum, Dactylorhiza hatagirea and Polygonatum multiflorum etc.. Prof. C.P. Kala studied the valley for a decade from 1993 onwards and concluded that the Valley of Flowers endows with 520 species of higher plants (angiosperms, gymnosperms and pteridophytes) and of these 498 are flowering plants.
The park stretches over an expanse of 87.50 km² and is part of the 223,674 ha, Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve which is further surrounded by a buffer zone of 5,148.57 square kilometers. This Reserve is in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves since 2004.
Getting to the Valley of Flowers requires a trek of about 36 kms. over a period of 3 days. However, from the base of Ghangaria, the Valley of Flowers is only 8 kms. to and fro. The park opens only during the day till 6pm and all visitors are required to report back at the base in the evening.
To make this trekking experience more enjoyable for you, you would be staying one night each way while going to and returning from the Valley of Flowers at an Ayurveda Resort enjoying light therapy & massage. The luxurious retreat is spread over a large area and offers international standard infrastructure facilities with luxurious comfort for unwinding holidays. It offers a gift of living well, delivered by way of a holistic blend of spa therapies and an enchanting experience, provided through a delicately synchronized symphony of wellness and enjoyment-combining relaxation, fitness, treatments and nutrition.
The retreat has a swimming pool to enhance the rejuvenating experience. The pool is complimented by an adjoining plunge pool for children. It offers various outdoor facilities which include biking, horse-riding, Kite-flying, cricket, croquet, football, jogging track and a modern well-equipped gym. You can explore an amazing variety of birds, flowers and trees, clean air and clear star-studded night skies. Indoor games include pool, tables-tennis, carom, video games and board games et al.
